Survey on Trend of Components for Automotive Lithium-Ion Batteries
Published May 2009

Automotive OEMs are devoted to replacing the automotive battery from nickel-metal-hydride batteries (which are now with Toyota Prius and Honda Insight) to lithium-ion batteries that have larger electric capacity. The objective of this IMC project is to gain an understanding of the R&D trends focusing on anode, cathode, separator and electrolytic solution, all of which are major components for lithium-ion batteries. In addition, IMC is planning to have interviews with components manufacturers to address if EV, PHEV and/or HEV are going to be mass-produced on time as announced by the press or if not when would that time frame actually be. IMC is also interested in making a correlation diagram between the manufacturers of components, batteries and automobiles, based on discussions with these contacts.
