A global specialty chemical company wanted to understand the opportunities and risks of significant investment in biorenewables, potentially from raw materials through polymer compounding.

 

Outcome:

We conducted a full market assessment across the conventional polymer value chain and forecast current versus future biorenewable alternatives. For the relevant industry sectors, we analyzed supply/demand, pricing and value chain, competitor behavior and strategies, cost drivers, and key success factors and, crucially, the impact of oil price, together with the impact/probability of key risks.

For a global petrochemicals company, we provided detailed global insights on five chemicals so that it could develop an effective market entry strategy.

Outcome:

For each chemical, we developed extremely detailed global information regarding market size, pricing, value chain, competitive intensity, growth, and key success factors, which were used to provide a ranking of attractiveness and an indication of key client gaps. We also developed a detailed cost manufacturing model linking future chemical and feedstock pricing in each region. We also provided our client with a detailed sales and marketing plan for each chemical, including a product allocation and sales plan and an overview of the resources needed (people, assets, and systems).

Client Type:

We provided a government with a development framework spanning a 20-year period for implementing an integrated network of petrochemical clusters based on the most economically feasible and ecologically sensitive downstream products to manufacture at these sites. We also provided a high-level action plan to realize the cluster development strategy, including cluster marketing and investor acquisition strategy.

Outcome:

We used benchmarking to identify best practices and key success factors of leading international clusters. Through technoeconomic analysis, the most viable cluster alternatives and strategically imperative products were identified based on market potential and local-advantaged feedstock. On the basis of the selected cluster alternatives, we developed high-level land use plans, cluster promotion strategy, and an action plan for building the cluster.

Client Type:

Our client, a major global distributor, had recently grown significantly in Europe based on a number of acquisitions. Integrating these businesses into an overall organization and improving the service performance of the lagging organizations was a major task. Our client needed an objective benchmark to help it implement these changes throughout its organization.

Outcome:

We carried out an extensive customer satisfaction benchmarking study to determine how our client’s offering was perceived in the different European countries and how competitor offerings were perceived. Our study helped the client identify within each of the countries covered the specific weak points it had to address in order to improve its performance. Based on our insights, a concrete action plan could be developed and implemented to help develop business in Europe.
