Job Description:

Kline & Company is seeking a highly motivated individual for consideration as an Engagement Manager in the Energy practice within our Management Consulting business. Preferred candidates for this position will possess experience in the consulting industry working on project planning and strategy development, marketing, manufacturing, and competitive analysis projects or in commercial planning and operations.

Energy industry experience would be an advantage, particularly in one or more of the following oil and gas industry sectors: refining, crude oil and/or refined products supply and trading, and natural gas. Familiarity with global markets, or regional markets outside North America (including Asia, the Middle East, and Europe), is desirable. The ideal candidate will have consulting experience combined with prior oil and gas industry experience.

This position is envisaged for our Houston, TX, office, but we would also consider candidates at our office in Little Falls, NJ.

As an Engagement Manager, your primary responsibility will be to manage project teams in the design, execution, and delivery of management consulting assignments that deliver rigorous analysis and intelligent insights for our global clients. Typical engagements are either regional or global in scope and may include growth plans, opportunity identification and assessment, competitive intelligence, project or industry economics, industry trends and forecasting, supply chain assessment, M&A, or other strategy or strategy support engagements.

Position Description:

  • Reports to the head of the Houston office with a dotted line to the VP of Energy
  • Develops/refines scope of engagement, scheduling, budget, and client deliverables
  • Drives staff performance to successful completion of engagement, meeting goals for schedule, budget, and client satisfaction
  • Guides the development of analysis, appraisal, and recommendations; oral presentations; and all supporting documentation
  • Serves as key day-to-day client liaison throughout duration of assignments
  • Supports business development efforts by maintaining client relationships

Job Requirements:

  • Experience in the consulting industry working on strategy support, competitive analysis, or project analysis engagements is essential
  • Self-starting, ability to work in situations of uncertainty, problem-solving abilities, and ability to drive a team to successful completion of projects
  • Effective analytical, communication, presentation, and facilitation skills for the purposes of team leadership, client work sessions, and client presentations
  • Proven ability to manage, mentor, and motivate in a team environment to achieve results that meet or exceed client expectations
  • Experience in global downstream oil or gas industry positions is desirable
  • A B.S. in a related field, preferably an MBA, and at least seven years of experience in industry and in a consulting environment
  • Ability to travel
