The total demand for consumer automotive lubricants in Morocco is an estimated 29 kilotonnes in 2015. The largest share of the demand comes from engine oils, including PCMO, PCDO, and 2T/4T, with a demand of over 70% of the total consumer lubricant volume. This is followed by gear oil with about 13% and grease and ATF with the remaining share.

According to the recently published Opportunities in Lubricants: China Market Analysis report from global market research and management consulting firm Kline, total consumption of lubricants in China is estimated at 7,000 kilotonnes, valued at an estimated USD 26 billion in 2015.
In China, the total consumption of consumer automotive lubricants in 2015 is estimated at 1,400 kilotonnes, valued at approximately USD 11 billion and forecast to grow 3.7% by 2020, with new passenger car sales growing 9.2% during the first half of 2016. This includes factory-fill for all product categories and greases. (more…)
In a presentation at the ICIS Pan-American Conference held in December 2016, Sergio Rebelo, Managing Director in Kline’s South America affiliate, Factor, discussed the struggles and opportunities of the South American finished lubricants market.
South America has a population of 419 million and a continental GDP of USD 3.6 trillion, roughly 5% of the global total. The top countries in terms of GDP are Brazil, Argentina, and Colombia. Nonetheless, the region is undoubtedly experiencing a challenging economic climate. Projected growth has been cut in half since 2010 and is forecast to grow 2.5% per annum until 2020. (more…)
Overall demand for finished lubricants in Latin America and the Caribbean was negatively affected by the regional economic downturn during the period from 2014 to 2016. However, this general challenging picture is hiding a number of dynamic markets, such as Chile, Dominican Republic, Panama, and Costa Rica, where lubricant demand is posting above-average industry growth, finds the recently published Opportunities in Lubricants: Latin America and Caribbean Market Analysis report by global market research and management consulting firm Kline.
As the region starts to pick up, it is entering a new post-recession cycle in 2017. The regional differences emerging show that growth will not be uniform. (more…)
The split of lubricant consumption by region tracks the division of global installed capacity. China is the largest market for lubricants used in wind energy, accounting for 34% of total demand, followed closely by the United States with 21%. Germany and India account for an approximate share of 6% each. However, Germany’s demand is slightly more than that of India according to the recent Lubricants for Wind Turbines: Global Market Analysis and Opportunities report by global market research and management consulting firm Kline. Accounting for approximately 8% of the global finished lubricant demand, Africa and the Middle East is a region ripe for growth. The region is forecast to grow at a modest compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 3% until 2019. Infrastructure and a modernizing vehicle parc will play a role in altering the landscape for finished lubricants in the region. (more…)

The current global demand for general industrial oils (GIO) stands at approximately 6,500 kilotonnes and is projected to exhibit moderate growth over the course of the next five years. With over 50% share in the global consumption, hydraulic fluids are the most consumed GIOs by a wide margin. The share of different GIOs and grease are almost similar across all regions, with some variation in share of individual products. Hydraulic fluids are the most commonly consumed GIO in all regions, followed by gear oils and turbine and circulating oils. (more…)
The global two-wheeler market, which includes motorcycles, scooters, and mopeds, is expected to reach over 700 million units by 2021. This is a high-growth market segment, increasing at a rate of 8% per annum. Rising economic conditions, lack of public transportation, poor road infrastructure, high fuel efficiency/ mileage, lower emissions, and growth in the young population are the leading drivers for this significant uptick in demand. As a result of these trends, countries like Brazil, India, and Vietnam are at the forefront of driving demand for two-wheelers. However, as electric two-wheelers gain prominence in Southeast Asian countries, lubricant demand growth may be subdued. (more…)
Low viscosity SAE 0W-XX passenger car motor oil (PCMO) accounted for under 5% of the total global PCMO demand in 2014. This grade is forecast to increase to over 7% by 2023, according to the recently released LubesNet Database.
Moreover, 5W-XX and 0W-XX combined account for about 40% of the total global PCMO market in 2014, according to the latest Global Lubricants: Market Analysis and Assessment report. The continuing global migration to lower viscosity grade PCMO will result in higher penetration of synthetics, semi-synthetics, higher revenues, and, conversely, longer oil drain intervals and suppressed overall PCMO growth.
